Mobile Mechanic Lubbock: Car Repair That Comes to You

Lubbock is hard on cars. Stop and go traffic on Slide Road and 50th Street, the ramps on and off Loop 289, and the long run down the Marsha Sharp Freeway wear out brakes faster than most people expect. Add summers that sit above 100 degrees for weeks, dust that blows across the South Plains every spring, and the first hard freeze each winter. It’s no surprise that batteries, AC systems and brakes are the things that quit most around here.

That’s when people call Caprock Auto Care. As a Lubbock mobile mechanic based on 19th Street, we drive to you: the older homes in Tech Terrace and Maxey Park near campus, Rush off 19th Street and Loop 289, and the newer streets of Vintage Township and the neighborhoods along 82nd Street in South Lubbock. We also cover Wolfforth, Shallowater, Slaton, Levelland and Plainview.

Most mechanics in Lubbock work out of a shop. A lot of our calls come from people who can’t easily get to one. A nurse finishing a long shift at Covenant or UMC. A Texas Tech student whose car won’t start in an apartment lot. A truck owner who needs the F-150 back for work tomorrow. We find the real problem, tell you the price, and start only after you say yes. Every repair carries a 12 month, 12,000 mile warranty.

What is a mobile mechanic?

A mobile mechanic is a car mechanic who brings the tools, parts and diagnostic equipment to your car instead of making you bring the car to a shop. Most brake, battery, oil, AC and starting problems can be handled in a driveway or parking lot in under two hours.

Why Lubbock Drivers Trust Us

Ask around for auto repair in Lubbock, TX and you’ll mostly hear about shops: a drive across town and a day without your car. Ours starts with a phone call. Here’s what a reliable mobile mechanic should do, and what we do on every call.

  • We drive to you, usually the same day. Most calls inside Loop 289 and across South Lubbock get a visit the day you call.
  • You see the price first. Nothing gets replaced until you approve it, and you can always say no.
  • We test before we replace. A bad starter or a weak alternator can look exactly like a dead battery, so we check the whole starting and charging system first.
  • We tell you what can wait. If your pads still have life in them, we say so and leave them on.
  • A professional scan tool rides in the van. We read trouble codes and live engine data right where the car sits.
  • No trip fee inside Lubbock. Levelland and Plainview carry a small fee, and you hear it on the phone first.
  • Your repair is covered for 12 months or 12,000 miles, parts and labor.
  • ASE certified and fully insured, with EPA Section 609 certification for AC work.

Our Process: How a Mobile Auto Service Visit Works

We’ve made enough house calls around Lubbock to have this down. Here’s exactly what happens, from your call to the road test.

Step 01

You call and tell us what the car is doing

Call (806) 749-3355 and describe it in your own words: the noise, the smell, the light on the dash, or what happened when you turned the key. You don’t need to know the name of the part. That’s our job.

Step 02

We get your car’s details so we bring the right parts

We ask for the year, make and model and where the car is parked, whether that’s your driveway in Wolfforth, a work lot near the Medical District, or an apartment lot off Slide Road. That way the right pads, battery or filter are already in the van.

Step 03

You get a free quote and an arrival window

Before we head out, you get the price of the diagnostic visit, a likely price range for the repair, and a time window. Most Lubbock calls get a same day visit. No surprises later.

Step 04

We find the problem where the car sits

That’s the advantage of an onsite mechanic: we test before we replace anything, right where the car is. Then we show you what we found, whether it’s a worn brake pad, a battery test reading or a trouble code, and explain it in plain words.

Step 05

You approve the price before any work starts

You get the repair price in writing. Nothing happens until you say yes. If we find something else along the way, we stop and ask before going further.

Step 06

We fix it, test it and back it with our warranty

We make the repair, road test the car or start it several times, and clean up. You pay when the work is done, and the job is covered for 12 months or 12,000 miles.

What should I have ready when you arrive?

Your keys, a flat spot to park, and room to open the hood. If you’ll be at work, you can hand us the keys and get back to your day. We call you when it’s done.

How long does a mobile repair take?

Most brake, battery and oil jobs take 30 minutes to two hours. Fuel pumps and some AC repairs take longer. You get a time estimate with the price.

Mobile Repair Services That Come to Your Door

Front brake rotor and caliper with the wheel removed for inspection

Brake Repair

Grinding, squealing, a pulsing pedal, or a car that pulls to one side when you stop. Stop and go driving on Slide Road and 82nd Street wears pads fast, and pickups pulling trailers wear them faster. We inspect the pads, rotors, calipers and brake fluid, handle the brake pad and rotor replacement where the car is parked, and road test before we leave.

Old engine oil draining from the oil pan during an oil change

Oil Change

Every oil change at your home or office uses the oil your owner’s manual calls for, plus a new filter and a check of the battery, belts, hoses and fluids. Many manuals count dusty roads and extreme heat as severe driving, which can mean changing oil sooner, so we check what yours says and look at your air filter too.

Auto AC Repair

Warm air in a Lubbock July is miserable. An AC that keeps losing its cold usually has a leak, so we check refrigerant pressure, look for the leak, and test the compressor and cooling fans before any car AC recharge or repair. Old refrigerant is pulled out with a recovery machine, never vented into the air.

Battery Replacement

Summer heat is hard on batteries, and a battery weakened in August often quits on the first freezing morning. We test the battery, the cables, the starter and the alternator first. If the battery is the problem, we replace the car battery on the spot and take the old one for recycling. If it isn’t, you’ll know before you spend money on one.

Fuel Pump Replacement

Hard starts, sputtering under load, or an engine that cranks but won’t fire can mean a failing fuel pump. We check fuel pressure and the pump relay before we blame the pump, because a pump is a big job and you shouldn’t pay for one you don’t need.

Stranded? Emergency Mobile Mechanic and Roadside Help

Car quit in a parking lot on 50th Street or on the shoulder of Loop 289? Think of us as your roadside mechanic: it can often be fixed right where it sits.

Car Won’t Start? Do This First

Can a mobile mechanic fix a car that won’t start? Often, yes. Most no starts come down to the battery, starter, alternator or fuel delivery, and all four can be tested where the car sits. A five-minute no-start check in your driveway can narrow it down before we arrive.

Before you call:

  1. Turn the key and listen. One click, rapid clicking and no sound at all each point to something different.
  2. Check whether the dash lights and headlights come on.
  3. Look at the battery posts for white or green crust, and tell us what you heard when you call.

What We Can Fix Where You’re Parked

Brakes, batteries, starters, alternators, oil changes, AC diagnosis and recharge, most fuel pumps on cars and light trucks, and check engine light scans.

When You Still Need a Tow

Some jobs need a vehicle lift or heavy shop equipment, such as transmission rebuilds, internal engine work, wheel alignments and tire balancing. If your car needs a shop, we’ll tell you on the phone or right after the diagnosis, and you pay only for the diagnostic visit.

How Fast We Get to You

Inside the city, a mechanic that comes to you is usually there the same day, and you get an arrival window before we head out. Wolfforth, Shallowater and Slaton sit close by. Levelland is roughly 30 miles west and Plainview close to 45 miles north, so plan a little more time there. After hours calls are returned first thing the next morning.

What Mobile Repair Costs in Lubbock

Car repair in Lubbock, TX doesn’t come with one flat price. It depends on your vehicle and what’s actually wrong, so we diagnose first and price the repair second. The quote on the phone is always free.

What Does the Diagnostic Cost?

We tell you on the phone before we drive out, and it’s credited toward the repair if you go ahead. Mobile mechanics listed in Lubbock advertise diagnostic visits starting around $25. The visit covers the trip, a computer scan when needed, and testing of the system that’s acting up.

Typical Price Ranges

These are average price ranges. Your price depends on your vehicle and the work it needs, and it’s always open to discussion. You get the exact number in writing before we start.

ServiceAverage price range
Brake pad replacement$335 to $394
Oil change$35 to $75 conventional, $65 to $125 full synthetic
AC recharge$285 to $369
Battery replacement$268 to $368 installed
Fuel pump replacement$1,344 to $1,513

What Moves the Price

  • Your vehicle. Brake parts for a Silverado 1500 don’t cost the same as brake parts for a Nissan Rogue.
  • The parts you choose. When there’s a choice between OEM and aftermarket, we give you both prices.
  • What else is worn. Pads that go too long can take the rotors with them.
  • Distance. No trip fee inside Lubbock. Levelland and Plainview carry a small trip fee, quoted on the phone.

How Approval and Payment Work

You get the price before any repair starts. If we find something else along the way, we stop and ask before going further. You pay when the work is done.

Recent Repairs and Real Customer Reviews

My car started running rough while I was getting ready to leave for work, and I wasn’t sure if it was safe to drive. I called a mobile mechanic and arranged for them to come to my place in Lubbock. The technician checked the car, explained what he found, and went over the repair with me before getting started. I liked that he took the time to answer my questions instead of rushing through everything. Having someone come to me saved me a lot of hassle that day.

Chris M., Lubbock, TX · 2019 Honda Accord · Engine performance diagnosis

I noticed a problem with my car over the weekend and wanted to get it checked before I had to use it for work again. I live in Wolfforth, so having a mechanic come to my driveway was a big help. He checked things over, explained what was causing the problem, and told me what needed attention first. I appreciated being able to talk through the issue and understand the repair instead of just dropping my car off somewhere and waiting for a phone call.

Amanda L., Wolfforth, TX · 2020 Chevrolet Equinox · Vehicle inspection and repair

I’ve got a pretty busy schedule, so taking my car to a repair shop is always a bit of a headache. I contacted a mobile mechanic to check an issue I’d been noticing, and the whole process was more convenient than I expected. He came out to my place in Shallowater, checked the car, and explained what he recommended without making things confusing. It was nice to have the issue looked at right at home without having to arrange a ride or spend half the day at a shop.

Three Real Jobs That Show You What to Expect

Every call is a little different. Here are three recent jobs, with the problem, what we did and how it turned out.

Case Study 01 · Lubbock, TX 79416 · Starter replacement

Clicking, but the engine wouldn’t crank. The battery wasn’t the problem.

The situation: A customer in Lubbock, TX 79416 called because the car had suddenly stopped starting. The dashboard and headlights worked normally, but turning the key only made a clicking sound.

What we did: We came to the customer’s location and tested the battery, the terminals, the starting circuit and the starter. The battery showed plenty of voltage, so we kept testing instead of selling a new one. Further testing pointed to a starter fault. After we explained the diagnosis, we replaced the starter and checked the electrical connections. Then we started the car again and again to make sure it fired every time.

The outcome: The customer avoided a tow and had the starting problem fixed right where the car was parked.

Case Study 02 · Lubbock, TX 79423 · Alternator repair

The battery light came on. We tested the charging system before replacing anything.

The situation: A Lubbock customer in ZIP code 79423 saw the battery warning light come on. The car was still running, but they worried it would die before they could get it to a shop.

What we did: We sent a mechanic to the customer’s location. The technician tested the battery and charging system and inspected the alternator, the electrical connections and the parts around them. Testing showed the alternator wasn’t putting out the charge it should. We explained the diagnosis and the recommended repair before going ahead. After the repair, we tested the charging system again and watched it to make sure the battery was getting the right charging voltage.

The outcome: The charging problem was found and fixed without the customer having to arrange a tow.

Case Study 03 · Plainview, TX 79072 · Check engine diagnosis

Check engine light came on before a long trip. We diagnosed it in the driveway.

The situation: A driver in Plainview, TX 79072 noticed the check engine light shortly before an upcoming trip. The car was still running, but the owner wanted to understand the problem before driving any farther.

What we did: A mechanic came to the customer’s Plainview location and ran an OBD-II diagnostic scan. We didn’t rely on the trouble code alone. The mechanic looked at the stored data together with how the car was acting, then did more inspection to find the likely source. We explained the findings, including whether the repair needed to happen right away and what could safely be watched.

The outcome: The customer got a clear diagnosis at home without arranging a tow or leaving the car at a shop.

Lubbock Heat, Dust and Your Car

West Texas is hard on cars no matter how you drive.

  • Heat. Lubbock hit 100°F or higher on 46 days in 2023, second only to 2011, according to the National Weather Service. Consumer Reports says summer heat is harder on car batteries than winter cold, and most batteries last three to five years.
  • Dust. When a haboob hit Lubbock on October 17, 2011, the National Weather Service measured gusts to 75 mph and visibility near zero. Blowing dirt clogs air filters and gets into brakes.
  • Cold. For the January 2026 ice and snow storm, KCBD forecast lows in the single digits and wind chills near 15 below. A battery weakened by summer often quits on the first hard freeze.
  • No yearly inspection. Since January 1, 2025, Texas no longer requires a safety inspection for noncommercial vehicles, per the Texas Department of Public Safety. Nobody checks your brakes or battery anymore unless you ask.

Handled by a Certified, Insured Mechanic

Caprock Auto Care isn’t a call center sending whoever is free. Every job is done by a certified mobile mechanic: ASE certified, fully insured, with EPA Section 609 certification for AC work. Before the visit, we text you the mechanic’s name and photo, so you know who is pulling up.

We know how car trouble runs in this town. Dead batteries and AC calls pile up in July and August. Brake noise picks up after the dusty spring wind. The first freezing morning brings a wave of cars that won’t start. So we keep the parts for the most common jobs on hand, and the van carries a scan tool, battery and charging testers, and AC gauges with a refrigerant recovery machine.

If something isn’t right after we leave, call us and we come back and make it right. That’s what the warranty is for.

Mobile Mechanic Lubbock TX: Straight Answers Before You Book

Is a mobile mechanic worth it for a quick repair?

Usually, yes. You skip the tow, the ride and the time off work, and you see the part before you pay. Our breakdown of what a mobile mechanic really costs next to a shop walks through the numbers.

What can’t you fix at my location?

Jobs that need a lift or heavy shop equipment, like transmission rebuilds, internal engine work, alignments and tire balancing. If your car needs one, we tell you right away and you pay only for the diagnostic visit.

What does the warranty cover?

Parts and labor on every repair we make, for 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first. If a covered repair acts up, call (806) 749-3355 and we’ll come back and make it right at no charge. Normal wear, damage and parts you supply aren’t covered.

Do you bring the parts with you?

Yes, for most jobs. We get your year, make and model on the phone and bring the right parts. If a part has to be ordered, we tell you when it will arrive and come back to install it.

Is car repair at home safe?

Yes. A mechanic at home just needs a flat, solid spot and room around the car. We use wheel chocks and jack stands, never just a jack, and put down a drip mat so nothing ends up on your driveway.

Can you fix my car while I’m at work?

Yes, as long as your workplace allows work in its parking lot. You hand us the keys, we do the job, and we call you when it’s done.

Do you work on trucks and SUVs?

Yes. We work on cars, SUVs, minivans and half ton pickups. The F-150, Silverado 1500 and Ram 1500 were among the best selling used vehicles in Lubbock in 2025, according to KFYO, so we see a lot of them.

Do you charge a trip fee?

Not inside Lubbock. Levelland and Plainview carry a small trip fee, and we tell you the amount on the phone before we head out.

Do you work on weekends?

Yes. We’re open Monday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call (806) 749-3355 to book a time that works for you.

Can you diagnose a check engine light?

Yes. We scan the codes and then test the system they point to, because a code alone doesn’t tell you which part failed. You get the repair price before we do anything.
