Mobile Mechanic Levelland TX: Worth the Drive Out SH 114

Yes, we drive out to Levelland, TX 79336 and 79338. It’s about 30 miles west of our Lubbock base on SH 114, so a small trip fee applies, and you hear the exact amount on the phone before we leave. Every problem is tested first, and you approve the repair price before any work starts.

Because it’s a longer drive than a Lubbock call, plan on a little more time. You get an arrival window when you book. Phones are answered Mondays through Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A late call gets returned the next morning.

If you have two cars, or one car with more than one problem, tell us on the call. One trip can cover all of it, which gets more out of the drive.

A Levelland Battery That Kept Going Dead

Recent job · Levelland, TX 79336 · Charging system diagnosis and repair

A Levelland driver had been fighting starting trouble for days. It would crank once someone jumped it, then fail again on the next try. A new battery seemed like the obvious fix. Our tech checked how healthy the battery was, measured what the alternator put out, looked over every cable end and read the charging voltage. The alternator wasn’t keeping the battery charged, so a new battery would have died the same way. We fixed the charging problem on site and confirmed the battery was getting a proper charge before we left. Read the full Levelland charging story on our battery page.

A battery that needs a jump again and again is usually a symptom, not the cause. Our battery and alternator testing at your door checks the whole charging system, and if the car only acts up some mornings, here’s why a car starts one day and not the next.

What You Can Count On in Levelland

One Trip, Every Job on the List

Tell us everything the car is doing, plus any second vehicle at the same address. We load the van for all of it, so the drive out covers as much work as possible.

Tested Before Anything Is Sold

Meters and a scan tool find the failed part. A battery that tests good stays in the car, and you only pay for what actually needs fixing.

Covered After We Leave

The 12 month, 12,000 mile coverage on parts and labor works the same out here as it does in Lubbock. If something isn’t right, call us.

Levelland Weather, Season by Season

Hockley County weather works on a car all year, not just in one season. Here’s what each part of the year does, and what we check.

Spring: Wind, Dust and Hail

Spring and early summer bring the strongest wind of the year. On June 5, 2019, a storm line pushed a wall of dust across the South Plains with gusts of 45 to over 60 mph, and Levelland got marble-size hail the same evening (National Weather Service). Dust packs air filters and AC condenser fins, so we check both on spring visits.

Summer: Heat on the Battery and AC

Triple-digit days are normal out here. The Lubbock area logged 48 of them in 2011 (KFYO). Heat is what really wears out a battery, and it pushes the AC compressor hardest on the long highway drive. Warm air from the vents is the cue for an AC pressure and leak check in Levelland.

Fall: Harvest Dust and the First Freeze

Cotton harvest puts slow equipment and field dust on the roads around town, and the area’s first freeze comes around October 30 on average (KFYO). A battery that limped through August often gives out on that first cold morning, so fall is the right time for a load test.

Winter: Cold Starts and Icy Stops

Cold thickens engine oil and cuts a battery’s cranking power, and icy mornings make worn brakes far more dangerous. A slow crank or a soft brake pedal should be checked before the next cold front. We handle brake pads and rotors replaced in your driveway and an oil change at your Levelland address on the same visit.

Cotton, Oil and the Long Drive to Lubbock

Levelland’s economy runs on cotton farming and oil production, and the roads show it. SH 114 runs along the north side of town to Lubbock, and US 385 cuts through the middle, north to Littlefield and south to Brownfield. Pickups and work trucks rack up highway miles, and a lot of commuters cover 60 miles round trip to Lubbock and back.

That mix means highway heat on brakes, dust in every filter and long days for the charging system. It’s also why we’d rather come to you than have you drive a car with a weak alternator 30 miles to a shop.

Auto Repair in Levelland: Where the Van Can Park

Downtown and the Mosaics

Levelland has been a Texas Main Street city since 1998, and about 110 of its more than 120 mosaics are downtown. The state named it the City of Mosaics in 2019 (KCBD). Homes on the blocks around the town square usually have a driveway or room at the curb on a side street, and either one works for most jobs.

Around South Plains College

South Plains College has its main campus here and enrolled about 9,100 students in a recent spring term. Student cars sit for days, then won’t start before a Monday class. We come to apartment lots near campus with the manager’s OK, and to campus lots when the parking rules allow it.

Work Lots on SH 114 and US 385

If your car sits at work along either highway, we can test and repair it there while you’re on the clock, with the owner’s OK. You drive home in a car that’s already fixed.

Homes on the Farm Roads

Outside the city limits, homes sit among cotton fields with long driveways and gates. Give us the exact address and any gate details on the call, and pick a level spot for the car. We check the air filter on every country visit.

Closer to Lubbock, Wolfforth driveways get the same visit with no trip fee. Slaton, Shallowater and Plainview are on our route too.

Hockley County Towns We Reach From Levelland

Call with the street address, and we’ll confirm the visit and the trip fee before anything is booked.

Opdyke West

A small town of about 220 people at the 2020 census, on SH 114 about 4 miles east of Levelland. It sits right on our way into town, so it’s an easy add to a Levelland day.

Smyer

About 440 people, on SH 114 roughly 16 miles east of Levelland and 17 miles west of Lubbock, home of Smyer ISD (ZIP 79367). It’s the halfway point of our drive, so Smyer homes are an easy stop in either direction.

Anton

A town of about 900 at the junction of US 84 and FM 168 and FM 597, about 25 miles northwest of Lubbock. Anton ISD, ZIP 79313. Farm traffic on US 84 means dust and long highway runs.

Ropesville

About 430 people on US 62/82, roughly 21 miles southwest of Lubbock, home of Ropes ISD (ZIP 79358). Farm roads connect it to Levelland, so tell us which side of town you’re on.

Sundown

A Hockley County town of about 1,280 people at the 2020 census, home of Sundown ISD (ZIP 79372). Give us the street address when you call, and we’ll plan the route out from Levelland and quote the trip before we book.

Jobs Too Big for a Levelland Driveway

A transmission rebuild, internal engine work or a wheel alignment needs shop equipment and a whole day, so those don’t get done in a driveway. If what you describe on the phone sounds like one of those, we’ll tell you before you pay for the trip. If we only find it after testing, you pay the diagnostic visit and trip fee, and you get the findings in writing for whichever shop you choose. A 30-mile tow isn’t cheap, so we’ll be straight with you about whether the car can make the drive.

Levelland Questions Before You Book

What does a battery or alternator job cost in Levelland?

A new battery runs about $268 to $368 installed, the same range we quote in Lubbock, plus the small Levelland trip fee. Alternator prices depend on the vehicle, so we price yours on the phone. You hear the diagnostic price and the trip fee before we drive out.

Can you fix my car in a South Plains College parking lot?

Often, yes. Campus lots have their own rules, so check that repairs are allowed where you’re parked, or move the car to an apartment or work lot where the owner says yes. Tell us the lot and the space when you call.

My car starts after a jump, then dies again. Is it the battery?

Not always. Our Levelland charging call showed why: the alternator had stopped charging, so a new battery would have gone dead too. A quick test of the battery and the charging system tells you which part failed before you buy anything.
